Our journey began in Hemel Hempstead with one objective...

In 1972, when the car industry was booming, (but with a lot of breakdowns!) Mike Cowan had the thrust to come to the rescue of local cars and light vans that needed roadside assistance. Today, we are an internationally acclaimed breakdown, transport and logistics solutions provider assisting two-wheeled mopeds up to 50-tonne giants across Britain, Europe and beyond.

Timeline

At the very beginning, Cowan’s of Hemel Hempstead (as we were called back then) rapidly established a reputation for prompt response times, excellent customer services and expertise in its field.

It all began in the 70s

In 1977 we had the opportunity to tender for the lease on Newport Pagnell service area, which we subsequently won. Initially, Mike Cowan moved to the new site with one other member of staff. Cowan Recovery Limited (CMG) was formed and later that year we decided to close the base at Hemel Hempstead.

90s

Moving to Newport Pagnell prompted our expansion into the

Heavy Recovery sector, and the company quickly replicated the

reputation it had made for itself in the light vehicle sector,

particularly on police contracts. Cowan Recovery Limited (CMG)

changed its trading name to CMG Rescue Services in the late 1990s.

Over the years we have ingrained the original philosophy into our business that just meeting requirements is not an option and exceeding customer expectation is key to our continued development strategy.

In recent years we have developed some of the cutting-edge facilities within the industry with modern premises to cater for both forensic and accident investigations.

Our large fleet of vehicles allows us to cater for everything from a roadside breakdown to major multi-vehicle incidents, with our vigorous fleet replacement program to ensure that we always work with the latest vehicles and equipment.

This is only part of the story though; continual training programmes allow our staff to be at the forefront of the industries. We have for many years worked closely with our industry training provider (IVR) and not only are we a registered training provider but have also played a huge part in the development of specialist training courses none more so than the forensic recovery courses.

Our transport department caters for logistical movements both nationally and internationally for all types of vehicles, caravans, plant, agriculture vehicles and equipment, access and forklifts using a variety of vehicles of sizes and capabilities. Our multi-car movements run all year round in and out of Europe.

We have a covered transport section moving all manner of specialist vehicles from anywhere to anywhere in any number.

Our operational teamwork around the clock to give the high-quality service levels that our customers have come to expect. In addition, we employ a highly skilled team of Control Centre operatives who deal with a growing network to support our customer base in their requirements. All this is fully supported by our back-room teams dealing with finance and administration roles within the business.
